This time every Friday, we usually bring you a nice long list of weekend cycling events. Despite looking and looking, this is all that we could find.
It’s that time of year … Boneshaker Books is putting on Pedal ForWORDS, a book-centric alleycat race, as the grand finale of this year’s 30 Days of Reading!
Meet at Longfellow Park by the tennis court (E 34th St. & 38th Ave S). Manifests / registration at 4:30. Race starts at 5pm. After-party at Boneshaker with prizes, fun and libations for 21+ folks.
Pre-register for $3 at Boneshaker (2002 23rd Ave S, in Seward), or preregister online for $5 at boneshakerbooks.com. You can also register the day of the race–just bring your five bucks to the meet-up at 4:30 at Longfellow. (All the money goes to support Boneshaker, a non-profit, collectively-run bookstore! Yay!)
The theme this year: DYSTOPIA. There will be games, including CENTRIFUGAL BUMBLEPUPPY, special assignments, puzzles, trivia and guerilla gardening. COSTUMES ENCOURAGED (prizes will be awarded for most creative dystopian-themed get-up). Prizes will also be awarded for creativity and wit, and of course we’ll have some goodies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places and DFL. Sponsors include Boneshaker Books, The Hub, Angry Catfish, Sunrise Cyclery and Kitsune Cycles!
Not into bicycle racing? Volunteer at a stop! You’ll get a free Boneshaker t-shirt or a gift certificate for $10. Plus BEER at the end of the race if that’s your thing! (To volunteer e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.)
BRING A TOWEL.
