Twin Cities Cycling News From Around the Web

Hey, its Wednesday, which means it’s time for us to catch up on all of the week’s cycling news that you haven’t been reading about on Cycle Twin Cities.

While all the news about severe weather up North has been dominating the news for the last week it has been easy to forget about the torrential rains in Cannon Valley a few weeks ago.  Growley from MN Trails Navigator took a spin down south and checked out the pretty extensive damage to the Cannon Valley Trail.  Right now it is closed all the way from Welch down to Red Wing which is a big chunk of the trail.  It is bad enough that they don’t even have an estimate of how long it will be before this section is back up and running.  This is a big deal.

Many of you remember the Brompton race a few weeks back, you know, folding bikes, suits, riding fast.  Well, Joe over at Snak Shak, happens to be a Brompton Owner who has some suggestions for the Brompton organizers (mainly, ditch the suit requirements).  His point, which is a good one, was that people ride Bromptons in all sorts of ways and they are for the everyday commuters, so why not let people ride in what they want?  The difference between this open letter and the other 99% of open letters on the internet? Brompton actually responded.  Head on over to his blog for the full discussion.

Hey this is a fun story.  You might remember Isiah who we reported on a few weeks ago.  You know, little kid, riding 150 miles over three days for charity?  Well, future Almanzo competitors watch out, not only did he accomplish it, but did it with gusto!

Like wearing skinny jeans, but find them just a bit too restrictive for cycling?  Well Levi’s thinks that they have a solution for you with their commuter sepecific line of clothing and they are kicking-off the launch right here in the Twin Cities.  Thursday night at One on One, wear something classy.

Matt Appleman, you’ve heard of him right?  Twin Cities frame builder, all carbon goodness?  Well now everyone has, Sunday Business section, Star Tribune, boom.  On a side note, is it required that all frame builders have their pictures take with their face inside of a bike frame?  Seriously.

Ok so you gotta love this.  Many of you might have heard about WCCO Anchor Mike Binkley’s bike getting stolen, no?  Well, on bike to work day Mike’s bike was taken from right out in front of the studio while he was working.  Bummer.  Well this one has a happy ending.  Last week cops tracked it down in a downtown pawn shop and he got it back.  Let this be a reminder, always record the serial number.

For cycling folks in Minneapolis, Mayor Rybak is pretty much a champion for your right?   So why not do him a favor and vote for him as “Mayor of the World”.  Who knows if he wins the world might get a little bike friendlier.

As always we wrap it up with a video.  Recapping bike to work day this year.
