Event Recap: Nature Valley Grand Prix, St. Paul Criterium

On Wednesday Night Downtown St. Paul served as the perfect setting for the first real racing action for the 2012 Nature Valley Grand Prix.  After a morning of individual time trials, the teams geared up for a fast paced circuit which lead them through several twists and turns.

The only disappointment part of the night was seeing a lack of fans out to watch the race.  Maybe it was because it was a Wednesday evening, or the chance of rain, whatever the reason, it was not difficult to find a place to have an unobstructed view of the race.  There was still a lot of activity around downtown, with the traveling expo and the fleet of team vehicles, however, fans weren’t lined up to see the action.  Hopefully, the rain holds off for Friday and the Uptown Crit will be packed.

In racing action, the Optum squad is heavily favored for the overall win, both the men’s and women’s teams came up short of the top step of the podium in the evening race.

The teams head down to Cannon Falls this afternoon for road racing action.

Here are some videos and pictures from the night:

It’s a bit ridicuous that the second paragraph starts with “The only disappointment part of the night was seeing a lack of fans out to watch the race.” But prior to this ‘recap’ there was no mention of the Grand Prix at all on this site. It would seem if you’re going to anoint yourself the “Home For Twin Cities Cycling News and Information”, you’d be out in front of events like this.
