Hey, its Wednesday, which means it’s time for us to catch up on all of the week’s cycling news that you haven’t been reading about on Cycle Twin Cities.
The annual rite of spring, Almanzo 100, is coming up this weekend. While the weather (fingers crossed) appears to be looking much better than last year, there is always a ton to remember to bring with you. 800 riders are registered, and Organizer Chris Skogen has posted the final word on the official Almanzo website. So read-up, get ready, and we will see you down there!
Thanks to the efforts of the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition Uptown is now all bike parking’d-up with the Meter-signs. They decided to post up a list of all of the folks involved in getting the area littered new bike parking. Check it out and be sure to hit up the businesses that have helped this happen.
After reading this post over on the MORBID Blog the first question that came to mind was, how did his body feel the next day? Write MikeyB tells the tale of his first 100 mile bike ride, which turned into a 120.1 mile ride, while dodging storms and finding his way.
The Bicycle Advisory Committee-Engineering Subcommittee gets all the early scoops of projects on the horizon. Luckily for us, Adam is sitting in and taking notes. It looks like the Intercity Regional Trail is progressing along nicely, as well as planning for Central and Washington Avenues. Head on over to check out the full scoop.
This got some press recently, but this seems to be a different take on the issue. A recent report from the Minneapolis Star Tribune showed that the massive investment by the federal government in our cycling infrastructure is actually paying off in riders. Urban Velo has taken a look at this and determined that despite the results the government is unlikely to lay out this kind of cash again, even if it has a good chance at reducing our congested roadways.
As always we wrap it up with a video. We have posted this before, but damn we miss this thing.
