During our in-person visit to the Park Tool factory in February, we noticed that things did seem a bit cramped. While much of the casting work is not done in the just outside of St. Paul factory, almost all of the finishing work is done there. As they continue to grow and sell more tools, their space needs continue to grow as well.
Now, the largest bicycle tool manufacturer in the United States is in the early planning stages of expansion. According to the Pioneer Press Park Tool has been approved for their letter of intent from to the Oakdale City Council for their purchase of 23 acres for a new facility. The article continues;
Oakdale Community Development Director Bob Streetar said Park Tool wants to build a 60,000-square-foot building on city-owned land at 6778 50th St.
Streetar said the city council will consider the site plan and purchase agreement May 22. He expects the sale of the land to be approved in June.
The purchase price is being negotiated, he said.
Park Tool’s headquarters is currently in Mahtomedi. Streetar said the company plans to close that facility and open a larger one in Oakdale.
The interesting part is that of the 23 acres only 8 are considered build-able due to the wetlands on the property. What do you think, factory plus some sweet single track?
