Proposed Loop Trail For St. Croix River Crossing

Rendering of proposed bridge, via MPR

Depending on what side of the contentious St. Croix River crossing mega-bridge debate you come down on (worst or best thing ever according to opponents and supporters) this is hopefully a win-win scenario for readers of this website.  We say win-win because chances are if you are a reader of this site, you love bikes, and this is definitely a pro-bike development.

The video you see below is an animation of the 4.7 mile proposed trail that will take cyclists and pedestrians across the border into Wisconsin and back again on the old Stillwater lift bridge.  Say what you will about Wisconsin, but for those of us in the Twin Cities looking for a nice 100 mile ride, heading into the hills of Wisconsin in a great place to go, and this trail looks to make it that much easier.

Of course, there are a lot of hurdles that this project has to clear before the trail becomes a reality, but hopefully, we will be enjoying this ride a few short years from now.  After watching the video let us know what you think.  Do you like the proposed trail, or do you just avoid Wisconsin at all costs?
