Twin Cities Cycling News From Around the Web

Hey, its Wednesday, that means it’s time for us to catch up on all of the week’s cycling news that you haven’t been reading about on Cycle Twin Cities.

Yesterday, it felt like spring, today… well they can’t all be winners. But it looks like this weekend is going to make you wish that you were on your bike, plan accordingly.

Winter might be winding up, but Trash Bags has continued their foray into winter clothing with the Garbage Lid.  Bomber hat that is warm, thin and is supposed to fit underneath a helmet, although that probably depends on the size of the head.  Looks slick, maybe gear up for next year?  Remember nothing beats buying local.

Speaking of local, did you know that a company in Saint Paul makes custom cycling kits?  Neither did we.  Podiumwear is located in STP and they print, cut and manufacture custom cycling clothing.  Aaron over at the Musette beat us to the punch and got a factory tour, watching them make the new Musette Kit.  Since we didn’t even know this place existed we are going to chalk this one up to our Minneapolis bias, Saint Paul folks, come-on give us the tip-off!

Artists rendering of Velo Apartments

So, on this one we are going to reserve the right to be skeptical.  “Velo Apartments” is a 106-unit apartment project that a Minnetonka-based design group hopes to build in the North Loop area of Minneapolis.  Besides the fact that it will be close to several bike lanes and routes, not really sure what is going to make these apartments Velo.  Extra wide accommodating bike elevators? Ramps from every apartment down to street level?  We would have to guess that it is going to have the same secure bike room that every other apartment building has, and would forbid people from wheeling a slushy bike through the main lobby.  If all goes as planned it will open in August 2013.

Still looking for a job in the bike industry?  Well, Grease Rag has your back.  Check out their updated list of awesome bike jobs in the Twin Cities.

Want some sweet pics of yourself on your bike, close-up and personal.  Twin Cities biker Kendra Sundvall is trying to get 30 portraits in 30 days, to coincide with 30 days of biking.  Check it out on Kendra’s blog.

Miss out on the Angry Catfish Anniversary party last weekend?  Yeah so did we, here are some pictures from the event.

Those fancy new bike rack/parking meter hybrids cost some money, but relatively speaking, not much.  The Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition is trying to secure funding so that Uptown is awash in new rack meters, and they already have their first pledge.

“Liz Walton, the first individual to make a contribution for the new bike meter racks. Liz is not an Uptown business owner but visits often and wanted to make a difference. She has opted for her bike rack to go outside of her hair salon – Salon Levante – where her stylist rides a bike to work but does not have secure bike parking available. Way to make a difference, Liz!”

And to end the day, something fun.  Hurl and his Speedhound vs. Norman (a Turtle).  It’s nice to see a Twin Cities company (Speedhound) using local talent.
