Twin Cities Cycling News From Around the Web

Hey, it’s Wednesday, that means it’s time for us to catch up on all of the week’s cycling news that you haven’t been reading about on Cycle Twin Cities, and this week, it’s a ton.

Ice Racing Tire How-To: Ever wonder how the folks ice racing manage to stay upright while going so fast?  Homemade studded tires.  If you are wondering how they make them, Tyson of the Shockspital and Freewheel Bike Golden Wrench, has a nifty little how-to up on the Golden Wrench Blog.

Urban Velo Visits Trash Bags: Our buddy Andy over at Trash Bags, got some national press when Urban Velo stopped by the shop over Stupor Bowl weekend.  Some great pictures and exposure for Andy!

Speaking of the Stupor Bowl… If you want to read a recap of the race from someone who actually took part in it.  The Gear Junkie has the recap you need.  Also more complete results from Saturday at Bike Jerks.

And incase our photo and video gallery wasn’t enough to satisfy you, Levi over on Flickr is back this year with another great set of photos.  We saw him during the race on the back of a tandem, camera in hand.

Still not enough?  Ok, Marco has posted a photo retrospective of Stupor Bowls past.

Pictures from Bill Lindeke of bike parking all around the Twin Cities (and one from Seattle but we won’t count that).

Arrowhead 135:  The Arrowhead 135 is an ultra-endurance race, to top all ultra-endurance races.  135 miles on a fat tire bike!  This year, the unusually warm weather made for a different type of race, and it wasn’t short on excitement.  Believe it or not 135 miles came down to a photo finish!  Can you imagine coming in second?  Also, no big deal a 69-year-old man became the oldest person to ever complete the race (we feel so lazy).

We might have jumped the gun a few weeks ago when we told you that Cuyuna would be open for the winter, but we weren’t wrong!  As of February 2nd, Cuyuna now has a trail opened up for winter riding.  Just in time for spring……

This link was sent to us by Tyler Johnson.  He is the creator of video number 3 called “The Love Handle”, seems like something that could fly here.  These are videos produced by Architecture students at the U and many of them are cycling related.  Check them out and vote for your favorite.  #12 – Nice Ride purposed is a must watch.

Have a link that you think should be included in next weeks news?  Sent us an email and let us know!

Cool – love the ice cycling studded tires! Impatient to get back out on the road – 6 more weeks to Mallorca – those tires are something to consider! More fun than the trainer in the kitchen too!
