Nice Ride bikes and kiosks being rolled out is one of the first signs of spring. Unfortunately the reverse is true for winter.
This Sunday at 10pm the Nice Ride kiosks will lock up, allowing you to return bikes, but not take out new ones. Starting first thing Monday they will start to be collected and moved inside for winter storage. Based on the massive expansion that took place this year, we imagine that it will take a few more days for them to pack up than it did last year, but sill it should be done within a week or so.
Why do the bikes have to go? It’s part of their contract with the bike’s manufacturer, also if you think of trying to dig out a bike after a 10 inch snowfall, probably would not be fun, after all they aren’t rust proof.
We are looking forward to seeing the new usage and ridership statistics that should come out sometime this winter, to see if the expansion into Saint Paul and Northeast MPLS has been successful in further boosting ridership.
So long Nice Ride, see you in the spring!
