Weekend Cycling Events
This weekend is packed wall to wall with outdoor cycling activities. We are going to be at the Dirty Benjamin (recap Monday) but hopefully will get out to some of the other events. A lot of people will be out-of-town, but not far away participating in the MS150. Whatever you do, enjoy the ride!
Fixed Gear Classic (Day One) – Head on up to Blaine to check out some of the best male and female track riders in the world compete in the lead up to the Nature Valley Grand Prix road races. Races begin at 6 pm at the National Sports Center Velodrome.
Dirty Benjamin 100 – Round three of the Almanzo Gravel Racing Series kicks-off bright and early on Saturday morning. We are going to try to drag our body over the gravel roads again, hopefully with better weather than Almanzo.

Bike Safety Rodeo – Get some help teaching your kids how to ride a bike, nice and early in life. On tap for the day; bike safety obstacle course for kids, free bike safety checks for kids, and minor tune-ups from volunteer mechanics. Hancock Recreation Center, 1610 Hubbard Ave in Saint Paul. RiverLake Greenway Grand Opening – Join in the celebration of opening up the RiverLake Greenway, a path which takes city roads through traffic calmed streets in South Minneapolis. It’s a five-mile path that runs all the way from the Mississippi River to Lake Harriet and after a few years in construction it is open for business. Meet at Minnehaha Academy South Campus at 1:00.
Community Partners Bike Library Bike Drive. – How many bikes do you really need? Bring your used bikes to Saint Paul to donate to the growing Community Partners Bike Library run by the Sibley Bike Depot. This program loans bike for free to members of the community and was quite a hit last year. The event starts at 11:00 and runs until 3 at the Mississippi Marked (622 Selby Ave.) in Saint Paul.
Grease Rag NE Kick-off Party– Join Lowrah and the rest of the Grease Rag gang as they ride from their current location (Sunrise Cyclery) to their second home, Recovery Bike Shop in NE. It starts at 6:00 at Sunrise and should be quite a good time.
Open Streets (Ciclovia) – Lyndale Ave! – From 10 – 2 enjoy 20 blocks of Lyndale ave. car free! Bike, walk, stroll, enjoy yourself, there will be plenty to do, just make sure you don’t drive there.

Bike to the Ballgame – Wrap up Bike/ Walk week by heading to the Twins Game sans car. The Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and OptumHealth are hosting “Bike and Walk to the Ballpark” Day at Target Field. On Sunday, June 12, the first 1,000 bicycle riders with tickets to the game will receive a free gift bag presented by OptumHealth. Game time – 1:10pm.
