It’s Bike/Walk Week! My favorite day of Bike/Walk week is the “official day”, which is Thursday, June 9. For the past two years, some friends and I have made a point of riding around before work to get as much free breakfast food, coffee and bike swag as we possibly could. This year is shaping to potentially be the best ever for our annual Free Bike Breakfast tour.
Here is a quick run-down of some of the offerings on Thursday from the Bike/Walk website:
Downtown St Paul Celebration (6:30 AM – 9:00 AM)
Coffee provided by Peace Coffee and a light breakfast courtesy of Whole Foods and Great Harvest Bakery. Musical entertainment and Bike Walk Week prizes as well.
Bloomington Celebration Location (4:30 PM – 6:30 PM)
Light refreshments and free basic bicycle tune ups courtesy of REI.
Birchwood Cafe (7:00 AM – 9:00 AM)
Free Peace Coffee & tasty good baked items
Freewheel Midtown Bike Center (7:00 AM – 10:00 AM)
WAFFLES! Plus fruit, juice and Peace Coffee.
Common Roots Cafe (7:00 AM – 9:00 AM)
Free Peace Coffee and house-made bagels with Organic Valley cream cheese.
Linden Hills Coop (4:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
After work (family-friendly) happy hour with light local refreshments and a chance to win a co-op gift card.
Balance a Fitness Studio (6:00 AM – 9:00 AM)
Peace Coffee, OJ , and homemade carmel and cinnamon rolls from Salty Tart bakery.
Trotters Cafe (7:00 AM – 9:00 AM)
Free coffee and muffin/caramel roll or scone to Bike Walk Week participants
We always make sure to waddle over to the Government Center plaza to finish this ride, because that’s where the real action is going on. From 6:30 – 9:00 AM, there are representatives from local bike shops, advocacy organizations and product vendors displaying their wares, as well as speeches and congratulations to the riders. And last but not least, there’s always more free food and coffee.
It’s not too late – organize your friends and co-workers, plan your routes, and schedule your pit stops. Just be sure to make it to the Government Center by 8:30 at the latest. This is one of the few rides where you can actually gain weight, so use a little caution because it’s also swimsuit season.
Have a great Bike/Walk week and hopefully I’ll see you out there!
