Weekend Cycling Events: 5.20.11

Weekend Cycling Events

After a brief hiatus last week as we scrambled to get ready for Almanzo, we are back, with our weekly preview of everything that we know of, happening in the Twin Cities Cycling Scene this coming weekend.

National Bike To Work Day – Even though we don’t formally celebrate it here in the Twin Cities until June, hopefully you decided to ride to work anyway!

ALS Bike Trek Minnesota – This looks like it will be quite a nice ride starting up in Hugo, MN.  Don’t let the rain in the forecast discourage you, just grab a poncho and head up to Big Marine Lake.  Registration is open from 8:00am until 10:30am at the Big Marine Park Reserve. Participants will ride out in waves starting at 9:00 am. The 14-mile loop will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The 34-mile loop will take approximately 3 hours. The 52-mile loop will take approximately 3.5 hours. A BBQ lunch will be served at the Big Marine Park Reserve between 12:00pm – 2:30pm.

Craft Beer Week Bicycle Crawl – MMMMMM Minnesota craft beer and bicycle rides, sounds good to us!  It starts at Cafe’ Twenty Eight at 10:00am and will hit some of your favorite Minneapolis hot spots.

Bikehaus – Art-A-Whirl –  This is going on all weekend, but Saturday night seems like a good time to go.  Our friends at Bicycle Theory are hosting a bike event as a part of Art-a-Whirl, the Nordeast art extravaganza.  Looks like it will be a pretty good time after all Peace Coffee and ARTCRANK will both be there.  Runs from Noon-8 on Saturday at the Northrup King Building.

Licensed Rider’s Introductory Track Class – Do you have a USAC license and want to learn how to ride the track up at the Velodrome in Blaine?  This is your day.  The class runs from 4-7 pm and will teach you what you need to know about riding on the track, just be sure to check the weather before you head up there.

If you are headed to any of these events and want to give CTC a re-cap, that would be great, just contact us.
