Freewheel Opens New Shop in Eden Prairie

It didn’t take Nostradamus to see this one coming but on Friday local bike shop Freewheel Bike quietly opened up a new location in Eden Prairie.  With this addition Freewheel now has three different locations including Midtown and the original Westbank store.

We have always understood the distinction between the Midtown location and the Westbank, being that Midtown sold less bikes and more accessories and coffee, however, this new store puts Freewheel squarely in the multiple full-service bike shop category with the likes of Erik’s and Penn Cycle.

This also marks the third new bike shop in the Twin Cities area during 2011 alone, at some point we have to hit shop saturation point, but for now at least it appears that the bike business in the Twin Cities is booming.

For some pictures of the new store, check out Freewheel’s Facebook page, or CTC contributor, Bradley Hanson’s Blog.

Have any of you visited the shop yet?  What do you think?

Well, I guess it offsets the loss of Cars R Coffins. A Menards is opening in Plaza as well, so it points to some reshuffling of franchises in the EP area.

I imagine this pushes more cycling shops to the suburbs, and hopefully with the supply end of things demand for cycling trails and the like may increase in the outer ring suburbs?
