Former Congress member Jim Oberstar is a cycling advocacy legend. Right up until the day he was defeated for re-election from Minnesota’s 8th congressional district, he worked to ensure bicycles got a fair shake in transportation funding.
His loss last November was a loss for all cyclists in the United States, especially now that we see the new type of thinking that has come to the House Transportation Committee. During his tenure as the Chairman of the Transportation Infrastructure Committee, Congressman Oberstar sponsored legislation on Safe Routes to School and Rails-to-Trails.
Congressman Oberstar contends that now more than ever we need everyone to be a cycling advocate, and he wants to help you learn how to do it. Thanks to the Hiawatha Bicycling Club you have the opportunity to listen to Congressman Oberstar speak while you eat a little bit of food (pot-luck style) on Thursday March 3rd.
It will take place at the St. Joan of Arc (4537 3rd Ave. South.), potluck set-up is at 5:30, dinner by 6, and the program will start by 7.
If you are looking for more information or if you want to volunteer to help call Robin (612) 801-1230.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear him speak, especially if you are going to miss out on hearing him at the Minnesota Bike Summit at the end of this month.
